Why We Drink

I love this...  "C....People who would be in B, but claim otherwise, for reasons of prestige."

Possibly my fav Leftfield song

The Knife offshoot

For those of you who enjoy the Knife's grotesque neon swedishness, you may appreciate a new release by the singer, Karin Dreijer Andersson.  The artist is "Fever Ray", and the debut album is self-titled.  It's....interesting, if super dark, and lacking some of the more poppy beats of the Knife.

While we're on the subject of Music...

I tried a music blog.  It failed.  Partly because I'm just lazy, partly because it's fucking tedious to write things when you are so damn aware that yes, there is indeed an audience reading it.  On here, though, I don't care as much (no offense to the readers).  I think I may make more music-oriented posts here, on a more casual level.  Just stuff I've discovered recently, or rediscovered, or am obsessing over.

Currently it's:

Beirut -

Gulag Orkestar

and also his EP:

Lon Gisland

He's a strange one, no mistake, but I really like his stuff.

Also, these guys are pretty good as well:

Coconut Records - Nighttiming

Ok time, to try and sleep again.

Can't Sleep, haunted by forgotten songs...

Tried, and failed.  I can sleep in some tomorrow so it doesn't bother me too much.  While I was with Ashley she had reminded me of a mix cd I had once burned for her that she really liked (years ago), and I had been in the process of recreating it.  I, too, had a copy of the mix at one point for myself, and I thought it a fun project to delve into the depths of my own memory, hunting for those lost tracks.  I've had a good bit of success, and I'm recreating the playlist in itunes now.  Had to re-rip a few tracks from albums I now own.  My Chicane - Behind the Sun cd is scratched and the very track I was seeking may be damaged. Damnit.  Well, I may just have to buy it again (if I even can....I heard somewhere that it's out of print...or whatever the term is for decommissioned albums).  We shall see. Wait, scratch that, it came in ok.  Huzzah.

Looking at it now, I can tell there are some holes.  I'm missing six or seven tracks, but I'm stuck.  This irritates me because Ashley actually helped me remember a few of these, and I can no longer use her as a resource.  Damn it to hell.  I've shoved in a few more recent things, as well as one or two I think would've been appropriate to the mix, but I suspect weren't actually on it.

This is the mix as of today:

The Forgotten Mix

Unkle - Theme song (from Psyence fiction)
Basement Jaxx - Rendevous
*Bran van 3000 - Loop Me
Tori Amos/BT - Blue Skies
Venus Hum - Montana
Chicane - Autumn Tactics
Beth Orton - Stolen Car
London Session Orchestra - Ball (Plunkett and Macleane sndtrk)
Balligomingo - Lost
Swayzak - State of Grace
*Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy
Zero 7 - Destiny (Photek mix)

* indicates newer addition

If you are familiar with these tracks, you get the idea of the general tone of the album.  If you have suggestions, feel free to comment.  Who knows, you may actually suggest something that was originally on the mix and do me a favor.

This is the most creative idea I've seen for a music video in a while...
